3/4" nominal pipe insulation comes as pre-slit, one-piece sections sized for 3/4" pipe (typically sold as 3 ft lengths) and is offered with a metal (aluminum) protective jacket over an insulating core (commonly fiberglass) to reduce heat loss, control condensation, and protect the insulation from physical damage. Factory-applied aluminum jacketing is commonly supplied in .016" gauge and in 3-foot cut lengths to fit the 3/4" nominal size; fiberglass-jacketed sections are rated for service from well below freezing up to several hundred °F (manufacturer datasheets commonly show ranges such as about −20°F to 500°F for similar steam/hot-water sections).
